Snow Stability

LAST BULLETIN OF THE SEASON: END OF SEASON, SNOWPACK OFTEN STABLE

Typical Avalanche Situation

Loose Snow (Dry Loose) Problem

Loose Snow (Dry Loose) Problem

Unconsolidated snow releasing as small dry-snow avalanches.

LAST BULLETIN OF THE SEASON: END OF SEASON, SNOWPACK OFTEN STABLE

  • Natural avalanches: Unlikely.
  • Skier-triggered avalanches: Unlikely, or a rare wet surface slide, triggered under skis when crossing a very steep and warmed slope. Last bulletin of the season. The Grenoble snow study team wishes you a great summer! See you next year!

Snow Quality

Snowpack and Coverage

  • Snow cover: Deficient for the season. After a well-covered early winter, the snowpack melted particularly quickly in spring, with a warm and dry April, and a heatwave at the end of May... Snowfall episodes associated with the cool period in early May were only a brief respite for the snowpack. Some slopes remain skiable at altitude, but require a long carry.
  • Skiable limits: 2300/2500m in North-facing couloirs. 2700/2800m on South aspects. On foot, snow patches still numerous from 2000/2200m on North aspects.
  • Snow quality on Monday: Fairly good overnight refreeze. Rapid wetting during the day on Monday.

Weather Forecast

Sunny morning. Some clouds build up in the afternoon, then showers move into the massif late afternoon/evening.
