Snow Stability

NEVE UP TO HIGH ALTITUDE. LAST BULLETIN OF THE SEASON, SEE YOU NEXT AUTUMN!

Typical Avalanche Situation

Loose Snow (Dry Loose) Problem

Loose Snow (Dry Loose) Problem

Unconsolidated snow releasing as small dry-snow avalanches.

NEVE UP TO HIGH ALTITUDE. LAST BULLETIN OF THE SEASON, SEE YOU NEXT AUTUMN!

  • Natural avalanches: With the snowpack being in neve form at all aspects and altitudes, small avalanches are unlikely and may occur above 2700m, particularly on the rare steep north-facing slopes where the snowpack has not yet transformed into neve.
  • Skier-triggered avalanches: The snowpack is very dense and stable. It is difficult for mountain users to trigger a slide or avalanche.
  • Other:
  • Snow bridges over watercourses and scree slopes are very fragile.
  • On Monday morning, the snow surface may often be crusted and slippery.

Snow Quality

Snowpack depth

  • The high temperatures of the past week have rapidly reduced the snow cover, which was recently abundant above 2400m on north-facing slopes. Good accumulations can still be found there. The snowline is increasingly irregular, but it is possible to ski in north-facing areas around 2400m. High altitude passes require appropriate equipment.

Snow quality

  • Generally neve-type, dense snow, often crusted on the surface Monday morning and requiring appropriate equipment. The snow softens quickly throughout the day with sunshine.

Weather Forecast

Low clouds up to 1500m in the morning, clear summits. Mountains become increasingly overcast later, with some precipitation. Southwesterly wind.
